Allegan Animal Shelter’s Adoption Process

All pet adoptions most go through an application process, we do not do same day adoptions.

The following minimum criteria is required to adopt a pet from the Allegan Animal Shelter.

1. You must be 21 or older, and be able to provide an established, stable, home environment.
2. You must have a solid history of vetting for any current pets and a positive referral from your vet.
3. All pets in your household must be current on vaccinations, neutered or spayed, and licensing ( dogs only ).

Additional pet or breed specific restrictions may be placed on some pets. For example, do not expect to adopt a large breed dog if you live in a small apartment. These additional restrictions will be noted on the pets biography found on this website.

Applicants meeting these initial criteria will be further reviewed and contacted for an interview. Based on these interviews, applicants will be selected for preliminary approval. Final approval will be contingent on confirmation of the applicants information and a “meet & greet” scheduled for each applicant in which family members, including their pets, can meet their potential new addition.
